The shift from an industrial-based economy to automated production with few workers, the growing poverty alongside the unprecedented wealth and consolidation of the giant corporations over every aspect of our lives, the blatant government-corporate disregard for Mother Nature, coupled with the U.S. drive for global domination that could spark a nuclear disaster, set the conditions for this historic gathering.

People at the event understood that the source of all of humanity's problems is capitalism, a system based on the private ownership of things indispensable to society. Developing the strategies to achieve "another world" based on public ownership is the next step forward for humanity. In this light, the People's Tribune opens up its pages to all who strive to educate the mass of poor in the U.S. about the new world that is possible.
In this issue of the paper, we highlight voices from some of the workshops at the U.S. Social Forum.
