Murder Inc: Journalist’s Death Shows Profits ‘trump’ Human Life
From the People’s Tribune
When corporations and governments make their “transactions”—in this case the selling of weapons to dictators—of more importance than human life and rights, this is tyranny. The dismemberment-torture murder by agents of the Saudi government of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, a US resident who wrote for the Washington Post, is a recent, terrible example of the brutality that is business as usual in the corporate-run governments of the capitalist world.
President Trump, in an interview on 60 minutes, showing no sense of outrage at this horrific act, pointed to billions of dollars in expected sales of weapons to Saudi Arabia as a reason to maintain good relations with the Saudis, no matter how many journalists they saw up or rights activists they behead. He then named the US military contractors involved: “Boeing, Raytheon, Lockheed, and others,” he said. “I don’t want to lose those orders” [for weapons from the Saudis], he added.
Our “leaders,” instead of upholding the Constitutional right to freedom of speech and a free press, make it very clear that profit rules over any one life, or even millions of lives.
This is fascism, as corporate-controlled global capitalism increasingly uses terror and violence to rub out any voice or anyone that gets in the way of its profits. The entire ruling class of this country is complicit in this warmongery and abuse. The system they represent must be replaced with one that relies on cooperation, peace-making and truth.
